Housing Vs. Transportation
I know two other blogs have beat me to the punch, but I'm covering it anyway (Let's Go KC, Toellner Tells it). The Center for Neighborhood Technology recently did a comparison of housing costs versus housing + transportation costs. I offer this as food for thought. I wish they would give you a slider that let's you adjust the price of gas.

You can also use the custom comparison on htaindex.org website -- it's the 4th tab to look at various variables.
