I always feel good about myself after a bit of exercise.
Earlier this week I explained my new method of getting around by combination of bike and bus.I've found that this method has more advantages than just convenience.
Exercise. I don't have to schedule exercise time. It's part of my routine.
Flexibility. The practical range of a bike is larger than the practical range of two feet. This puts more bus routes within a useful distance of home. By foot, the most practical North-South routes for me are the 53 and 54. Sometimes I walk over to Gillham and catch the 55, but that isn't often. I can also use the 28 on Linwood. (Somehow this one escaped my notice until recently.) With my bike I can now add the 27 (Troost), the 57 (Main), and the MAX. The bike also allows me to make easier use of bus hubs like Crown Center. According to the KCATA map, there appears to be about 16 routes that stop there. In fact there are so many buses that stop there, it's hard to count them. From Crown Center I don't care which bus I take. They all get me within a reasonable distance of work.
Self-Esteem. For some reason I can't explain I always feel good about myself after a bit of exercise. I was practically strutting when I walked into the office this morning. Who doesn't want to feel better?

How do you deal with perspiration when you get to work? I work in a business casual environment, haven't figured out how to get there in slacks and a shirt via bicycle.
It's still early enough in the year I don't sweat enough in the morning to worry about it. Also, I'm still doing most of the trip by bus, which also helps. In the evening I don't worry about it. I probably won't use this method when the weather gets hot.
I should also point out that I have a fortunate bit of geography in my favor. Enough of the route too work is downhill, that I don't sweat much to begin with. That also means that most of my exercise comes on the trip home.
If anyone considers operating the Metro bike racks confusing, you might take a look at our How To video: http://www.kcata.org/rider_guide/bike_n_bus_how_to_load_your_bike/#bikevideo
Thanks for Bike-N-Busing, 12th & Main.
